As we were preparing to make the move to Colorado Springs, we got one common response from friends and family. It was something along the lines of "What! No! Why?" After a brief explanation..."lower cost of living, larger home, desire for a bigger family", etc., everyone was supportive... many didn't like it, but they understood.
Telling strangers or casual acquaintances seemed to get a different response. Overwhelmingly the response was along the lines of “I am/We are so jealous that you get to move out of this rat race.” The UPS guy told us all about his request to pick up a route in another city, a few parents of kids in Mason's school talked about how they wished that they could move out of the "O.C." (Orange County, CA) and into a more simple life. Valerie and I were surprised at the number of people we wished that they to were moving out of Orange County.. or southern CA.
I know that many people don't have the luxury of just picking up and leaving their home in search of a better life. Many folks are tied down to a job, or they have critical family issues that require them to live in a specific place. In those, and other cases, moving may not be an option.
Wow... God is awesome! Who knew that being without an incredibly stable job for the last couple years couple be a blessing?
