A few weeks ago, my congregation joined forces with a local charity (FAM) in order to throw a benefit rock concert at San Clemente high school. The concert was promoted through several local businesses and to around 40 churches in the area. Since our church did not have a youth group (although one is starting now) - it was important to get the word out about this concert to and through other churches in the area.
On the night of the concert we packed in over 100 youth (not bad for a church without a youth group!) and raised over $1,000 for Family Assistance Ministries.
I think the most amazing part about this event was the music! We had three bands, and to be honest, I had never heard of any of them before booking them to play this concert. (stupidity? or stepping out on faith? ... you decide). The bands were Ever Stays Red, Something Like Silas (they play at flood (church) in San Diego) and ZeroTheory. Each band had it's own kick and each lead singer took some time to pray with the youth or share a bit about their own personal faith.
So..... if you happen to be looking for some good NEW music... check out each of these three bands.
